Through the extreme generosity of a liver donor in 2000, Willie was given the gift of 12 additional years of that life he enjoyed so much. He spent over a month at Mount Sinai Medical Center awaiting this miracle and another 10 days there recovering from the successful surgery. Willie’s family was lucky to reside 50 miles from Mount Sinai but some families awaiting the transplant of a loved one aren’t as fortunate. The Willie Patton Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, has been created to honor and celebrate Willie’s life while raising money for the patients and their families who are in need of housing near the medical center as they go through the transplantation process.
